Technology and The Future

Bicycles, like petrochemicals or food products, are a limited resource and most of the time they're wasted sitting on outdoor racks or out in the garage with the grills we never actually get around to setting up. We want the University of Illinois and the sorrounding communities of Champaign and Urbana to be able to take advantage of these currently dormant resources. We think this would be best accomplished through a fully-automated, multi-nodal network of community owned bicycles. Using existing i-Card technology and our own innovative distribution systems, we feel that everyone will be able to experience the pleasures of a closer-knit community and free-to-use human powered transportation.

Before we go into the nuts and bolts of how we think the bicycle distribution system is going to work, I'd like to reiterate that this is a community effort, so if anyone has any ideas they think either should be incorporated into the project, please email us at illinibicycleproject@gmail.com. Although we have a system in mind, the project is currently in development, and any input would be appreciated.

We are still drafting this section, for a basic understanding of the direction we are trying to take, please look at the Hampshire Community Bike Proposal
