Ending world hunger one goat at a time…
Goat-a-palooza is a student based initiative that works with Heifer International to fight hunger worldwide. Goat-a-palooza is a project that takes place each spring to help raise money and awareness for world hunger and the cause of Heifer International. This spring there will be the main event on April 19th on the University of Illinois’ main quad from 10 am-5 pm. At the event we will be having live goats at the quad with which pictures may be taken. There will also be entertainment, educational speakers, food, and donations accepted.
The goal of Goat-a-palooza is to raise money for Heifer International. Heifer International is a worldwide institution that combats hunger by sending farm animals and other renewable resources to families all throughout the world. The purpose of this type of program is to help individual families get out of hunger. The project works by donating money to Heifer International which will be spent on a specific animal and training for the family on how to use these animals to become self-sufficient.
Last year with Goat-a-palooza, 17 animals were bought by the project with a total of almost $1,800 that was raised. These animals were sent to 17 different families around the world that are immediately brought out of hunger trouble. The promise with Heifer is that the first newborn animal will be given to another family creating a gift that keeps on giving.
Goat-a-palooza works to bring this kind of support and success to as many families as possible throughout the world. With Goat-a-palooza the students involved become more aware about the issues of world hunger as well as what can be done to stop the deaths that occur everyday around the world because of hunger. The main goal is ending world hunger one goat at a time.
Heifer envisions…
A world of communities living together in peace and equitably sharing the resources of a healthy planet.
Heifer’s mission is…
To work with communities to end hunger and poverty and to care for the earth.
Heifer's strategy is…
To “pass on the gift.” As people share their animals’ offspring with others – along with their knowledge, resources, and skills – an expanding network of hope, dignity, and self-reliance is created that reaches around the globe.
Heifer’s History
This simple idea of giving families a source of food rather than short-term relief caught on and has continued for almost 60 years. Today, millions of families in 128 countries have been given the gifts of self-reliance and hope.
