Who Are We?
Stay tuned... there will be an upcoming project profiling the sorts of people who are involved in Sociology. You might be surprised what comes up!

The Facebook Project
The Facebook Project is a research project headed up by Jeff Ginger for his Senior Seminar in Science, Technology and Society. The project is also a research project for the Sociology club at the University of Illinois. The project was started in late March of 2006 and will continue and develop for some time.

Simply put The Facebook Project is investigating the impacts of Facebook on the college student population. The first stage of research has to do with privacy and trust as well as how Facebook has aided in redefining the ways in which people meet each other in person and on the Internet.

Outreach/Activism
Katie Becker came to present to us on Operation Smile in 2004 - a worthy cause dedicated to raising funds to help combat dangerous or demoralizing deformities in children.

We're looking to engage in more activism opportunities - spring of 2005 saw a small homelessness outreach and activism campaign that helped raise awareness about the homeless community.

Spring semester 2006 Positive Event Chain and Soc Club teamed up to run a Relay for Life team and raised several hundred dollars.

Fall 2006 Soc club helped volunteer with Books to Prisoners, a program put on by I-Help, dedicated to shipping litterature to people in jail with little access to education, entertainment, or even the outside world. The event proved to be very rewarding as well as a meaningful learning experience and glimpse into the lives of those on the inside.

The Last Stall
The bathroom stall research project has beensuspended indefinately. Word on the street is that the founder, Art Mitchell, may be returning to UIUC for his PHD. Revitalization of the project might be around the corner.

In the meantime the study of graffiti in bathroom stalls around campus remains a fun event for the group to do annually.
